File Under: Books

I love Mary Roach's books. I'm currently reading "Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex" and I about spit out my lunch when I read this line:

Last, but, okay, least, we have Dickinson to thank for the innovation of the relaxing picture on the gynecological exam room ceiling. The courtesy was inspired by a grueling afternoon spent staring at the blank ceiling above Dickinson's dentist's chair. I may be dating myself (a turn of phrase that now hits my ears as a euphemism for masturbation), but back in the early eighties, no women's health center was complete without the ceiling poster of a ring of redwood trees shot from below. So ubiquitous was this image that I cannot, to this day, look at a redwood and not feel as though I should scoot down a little lower and relax.

In the words of Homer Simpson: "It's funny 'cause it's true."

File Under: Movies

"Run Fat Boy, Run" is a cute movie. Definitely worth a rental if you like Simon Pegg, which I do.

File Under: Music

"Jukebox Hero" by Foreigner is a mighty fine song to listen to while doing cardio.

File Under: Hodgepodge

I'm late on this and not saying anything new, but Clay Aiken announcing he's gay is so stupid. Even stupider is this quote from a Yahoo news article:

This is really shocking news as I had no idea he was gay," read a comment posted by "Sheridansq." "And now I have to deal with this. I am not sure what to say to people who know I was a fan. ... I didn't go to work today and am not answering the telephone."

[snort of disapproval]

File Under: Food

Delicious, nutritous and oh-so-easy to make:

Toss some fresh broccoli with olive oil, crushed garlic and a wee bit of sea salt.
Turn oven to broil.
Put broccoli in oven and roast until all crispy-like. The closer to burnt, the better and even the burnt pieces rock.

Also delicious, if not so nutritous:

Turtle Mountain coconut milk chocolate dairy-free frozen dessert. I got turned on to it by The Best Friend. I don't like mint so I figured I would try the chocolate and I was not disappointed.

Go eat!
